Matthew James

Matthew was born in Alachua, Florida. It was at a revival at the age of 14 that he gave his hand to the preacher and was baptized. He joined the Air Force for 8 years right after high school. This started his firefighting career. While stationed at Plattsburgh N.Y., he met a Southern Baptist Pastor that led him to have a real relationship with JESUS. After his Air Force years he attended California Baptist College (now California Baptist University). Matthew’s 1st encounter with GOD was an audible call one Sunday night while ironing his work uniform. Immediately the call was followed up with Jeremiah 1:4-10. There were two other times that he had a vivid GOD encounter (Isaiah 11 and Isaiah 61). GOD’S mission to Matthew is that of a spiritual tow truck pulling believers out of the murky circumstance of life. While in Yuma, Arizona, Matthew and Rillia were married 16 years ago. They have five adult children and quiver full of beautiful grandchildren. They are members of Church of the Highlands, Birmingham, Alabama, where they serve faithfully in the Marriage and Family Ministry, Pastoral Care, Online Campus and Prayer Team Members. Matthew graduated Highland’s College in the Lead Pastor practicum in May 2016. He is an ordained Elder in the Church of God In Christ (C.O.G.I.C.) in 2009. Matthew retired from the Department of Defense with 28 years of federal service. He served as a DOD Firefighter Captain while living in Yuma, Arizona.
